Introduction

Our Goals:
  The Complex Fluids and Interfacial Physics Laboratory is a part of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. The laboratory is headed by Professor Pirouz Kavehpour. Being a multi-discipline laboratory, areas of research range from microchannel devices to granular flow studies. The group’s goal is directed towards development of fundamental engineering and scientific knowledge, whether it is applied to earthquake simulations or nanomachine technology.

Our Tools:
 
Essential to the research being conducted is the state of the art equipment the laboratory is equipped with: Nikon Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) Microscope; Phantom V4 high speed camera; TA Instruments Advanced Rheometer 2000; Cahn Dynamic Contact Angle Analyzer; Keyence LK-G32 Laser Displacement System. In addition to these advanced tools, the laboratory also has a computer lab, engineering library, printing center, cafeteria, and study lounge.

Gallery of Fluid Motion Exhibit Award


We have won the prestigious Gallery of Fluid Motion Exhibit, held at the annual meeting of the American Physical Society, Division of Fluid Dynamics in Tampa, Florida. The exhibit features award-winning photographs and videos illustrating both experimental and numerical investigations of a wide variety of flow phenomena. Judged by a panel of distinguished international referees, winning entries were selected based upon criteria of scientific merit, originality, and artistry/aesthetic appeal.
