CHPR Overview

Overview of CHPR

The Center for Study of Hydroclimatology in the Pacific Rim is a collaborative research project that investigates the impact of climate variability on the hydrologic cycle throughout the Pacific Rim region. A major focus of the research is the potential t o make long-range forecast of hydrologic parameters, such as streamflow, floods, and droughts, and the analysis of the forecasts on policy implications. For example, policy and decision makers could be given a drought forecast with a specified probability and a six to twelve month lead time. Using this information, changes in agricultural and water resource allocation policies may result in significant economic benefits. The development of such drought forecasts along with analogous forecasts of wet spe lls are a major goal of this research center.
