The Department of Materials Science
and Engineering at UCLA invites applications for a faculty position in
which the emphasis will be on creating new materials for civil engineering
applications. This is a full-time ladder faculty position at the
Assistant/Associate Professor level. Of particular interest are
candidates who have demonstrated outstanding research on cementitious
materials. The individual appointed to the position should have a
record of journal publications in the field along with teaching and/or
industrial experience. The candidate’s appointment will be in the
Department of Materials Science and Engineering, although a joint
appointment in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department will
also be possible. In addition, the successful candidate will be
considered for a term chair. All qualified applicants are encouraged

The job description is minimal…..reporting to a Sr. Engr. Responsible
for documentation per Engineering procedures. Testing, validation, process

Laboratory Technician
Laboratory Assistant
Small private company located in Los
Angeles area serving the metals manufacturing business. This is a
hands-on, high production environment where accuracy and speed of analysis
are valued qualities.
Responsibilities:
Uses analytical balance, moisture analyzer, AA Spectrometer, Assay
Furnaces, ICP-OES
Hands on, high production laboratory.
Weighs test samples. Prepares test samples for determining Cu, Be, base
metals and for fire assay.
Maintains sample identity.
Protects integrity of samples, proofs and reagents.
Keeps work area neat and orderly.
Works with health and safety in mind.
Handles flux correctly. Knows essentials of the lead assay.
Runs trial assays on unknown samples.
Evaluates and uses results. Consults with Laboratory Manager when results
indicate a non-routine assay.
Uses results of trial assays to optimize sample size, silver addition and
flux composition for final assays.
Performs under the direction of the Laboratory Manager.
Assay fusions , Cupellations, Gold parting.
Preparation of solutions for Au, Pt, and Pd determination by ICP, AAS.
Determines Au, Pt, Pd, Ag by ICP, XRD, XRF.
Uses the modified fire assay, tin collection, direct dissolution and
sodium peroxide fusion for PGM assay.
Makes preliminary evaluations of reasonableness of assays and agreement
among replicate assays.
Reports all nonconformance and discrepancies to Laboratory Manager.
The employee may be required to follow
other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as
requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
Qualifications
Associates Degree, BS or MS in Materials Science or related science field.
Possess physical agility to use balances, assay furnaces, fume hoods, hot
plates, acids, chemicals, etc.
Possess physical strength to lift 30 lbs.
Possess ability to understand the language of assaying and chemical
analysis.
Possess ability to understand and carry out written and verbal
instructions.
Possess ability to communicate with supervisor and fellow workers. Is easy
to train. Takes notes.
Possess the ability and judgment to evaluate performance. Asks for help
when he/she needs it.
Possess good organizational and mathematical skills.

Analyst

Analysts are the bedrock of the Lux Research team, conducting the
primary and secondary research that powers the firms' research reports
and consulting engagements. Analysts spend most of their time conducting
primary research interviews with executives, researchers, and thought
leaders; chasing down data points; analyzing quantitative data;
concocting creative ways to present data and ideas visually; and helping
manage the operations of a rapidly-growing, geographically-dispersed
team. Analysts take on significant client-facing responsibilities
commensurate with their experience and growth.
Responsibilities:
* Work with a team of expert Analysts and Senior Analysts to develop
and test research hypotheses and prepare findings for clients.
* Conduct primary interviews for written research reports, including
developing and executing sets of interviews with senior-level

Requirements:
