RESEARCH DESCRIPTION
Our primary research area is
modeling of the microscopic and macroscopic aspects of mechanical behavior
of materials. Emphasis are on fatigue life predictions and texture induced
yield strength anisotropy. Additional areas of interests include materials
processing, texture analysis (CODF), quantitative metallography and
fractography, advanced aluminum alloys, metal matrix composites and
statistical and artificial intelligence methods in materials science.
Current largest project involves
development of the microstructure based fatigue life prediction and
reliability models. Other projects include (1) modeling of the processing
- texture relationships for the aluminum aerospace alloys and metal matrix
composites, (2) study of the fracture mode transitions in structural
materials, (3) development of the constitutive relations for the solid
solution and latent hardening in fcc single crystals and (4) applications
of the artificial intelligence and neural networks in materials selection
and design.
