Tekrend Immersion System
A multi-purpose ultrasonic testing equipment, featuring an large immersion tank and a computer controlled precision three axis motion for scanning. The system is equipped with an automated data acquisition system for recording digitized waveforms. Comprehensive software package enables display and export of A-scan, B-scan data, and C-scan images. A wide assortment of fixtures and Panametrics transducers are also available, supporting and enhancing the capability of this system.

Fixtures and Accessories
An helmet holder and a specially designed contour following fixture (an universal joint design) was made for studying motorcycle helmet involved in accidents. A high-fidelity KrautKrämer transducer was fixed on a Plexiglas shoe, following the curved contour of helmet surface. Water squirter constantly keeps a thin film of water (for coupling purposes) between the shoe and the helmet.

A Leaky-Lamb Wave (LLW) Fixture, simliar to the one shown and specially made for us by Tomi Engineering, is also available. It launches ultrasonic wave at an oblique angle, with resolution of 0.1 degree. Reconstruction of material properties in composites and metals are possible with dispersion curves that are experimentally measured using LLW.

Digital Wave Fracture Wave Detector
A multi-purpose unit from Digital Wave Corporation. It features four pre-amplifiers, four data acquisition and conditioning channels, and a Ritec gated RF pulse amplifier. It is used extensively for acoustic emission (AE) and dry-coupled ultrasonics. Comprehensive software packege and high-fidelity broadband transducers (also from Digital Wave) are also available, supporting this system.

Oscilloscopes & Function Generators
The Laboratory features a Tektronix 100-MHz and a Tektronix 200-MHz Oscilloscopes. A Tektronix arbitrary waveform generator and a Stanford Research 30-MHz Function Generator are also available for inputing waveforms in piezo-electric transducers. In many of the works, arbitrary waveforms are imported to a function generator from a computer via GPIB.

Olympus Acoustic Microscope
This Olympus microscope have both optical and acoustical capabilities. Equipped with a tilt-table, this unit has an optically magnification of 100x. A 200-MHz and 420-MHz high frequency acoustic lens are also available for viewing specimens "acoustically", resolving micron size surface and sub-surface defects. It has motorized precision movement in 2 axis, giving it capability to scan the horizontal plane.
