Information for Users Who Setup Their Wireless Access Prior to 09/15/03

Those users in HSSEAS that have setup their wireless access prior to 09/15/03 will need to make changes to their VPN in order to continue to use wireless access in the school.

These changes have been initiated by the campus as the initial VPN system was an interim platform. The long-term VPN solution is now fully functional and all end-user devices are able to utilize the new platform. This new platform will eventually support PDA devices and provides for scalability to meet the growing demand.

The new platform is scheduled to become available for general use on Monday, September 15, 2003. On September 15th, all current VPN users will need to download the new VPN 3030 client; with the exception of Mac OS 9. Since there is no VPN client available for Mac OS 9, those users will need to make configuration changes as noted below.

Configuration changes required for all systems are:

• Users not using Mac OS 9 must uninstall the old 5001 VPN client on their computers. You may download the new client now, but you must wait until after 10:00am on September 15, 2003 to install it on your computer. The new VPN client will not work until that time. • Users with Mac OS 9 must change the name of the VPN server from "vpn.ucla.edu" to "legacy.vpn.ucla.edu". You will also need to download the new root certificate. Instructions for Mac OS 9 can be found here: http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/vpn/docs/macintosh5000.html. This solution for Mac OS 9 users will only apply through December 2003. Campus has not announced if another solution will be offered.
