SEASnet Linux Lab (4405 BH) Information

SEASnet maintains one linux lab. Each machine in the linux lab has two partitions. A SEASnet lab partition and a CS111 partition.

SEASnet lab partition

The SEASnet linux lab machines are customized to make using linux as easy as possible for our users. For example, when a user logs on their home directory is automatically mounted using samba. Because of this and other customizations it is possible that some software will not act as expected. Instructor's and TA's should expect to follow the recommendations and requirements listed under "software installation requests" on Information for Instructors and Teaching Assistants.

CS111 partition

SEASnet has worked closely with the CS department to provide CS 111 students with machines in our labs that will allow them to do their class assignments. When a CS111 student logs on to the CS111 partition they are agreeing to abide by the SEASnet User Agreement, campus policies, SEASnet Lab Policies and the CS111/SEASnet Facilities Use Agreement. Students login to the CS111 partition using their SEASnet username and pasword which mounts their home directory using samba.

Problems with Mozilla Browser

In order for users to keep their profiles from growing extremely large and causing issues with a student's disk quota, users should set the default cache size. SEASnet recommends setting it to 5MB or lower. To set Mozilla's cache size:
