Mentorship
Our mentorship program is one where a lower classman is paired with an upper classman of the same or a similar major. There are mentorship events every quarter (food is provided), where the mentor and mentee can meet up and discuss plans for the upcoming quarter. Of course, this is the bare minimum, because mentors and mentees often exchange contact information and end up being in close contact with each other the whole year. A unique aspect to the program is that mentees are given a mentorship folder at the first mentorship event. This mentorship folder is packed with pages of member-compiled information, which includes resume tips, study abroad information, internship information, and much more.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor/mentee or have questions regarding the mentorship program, contact »Amy Lin, the Mentorship Chair.
Outreach
The outreach program allows members to help expose girls ages K-12 to engineering. Girl scout day is one such event, where girl scouts and parents come to UCLA to work on engineering-related projects. Other events include E-week and introduce a girl to engineering day.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
In order to encourage girls across the country to become involved with engineering and technology, the Society of Women Engineers will be hosting, "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day!"
What will happen at "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day?"
SWE has created activities for girls to do hands-on engineering activities meet women engineers and technologists and hear first-hand about these exciting career paths.
What are the Objectives of the event?
- Facilitate a change in attitude about careers in engineering by introducing participants to the creative, innovative, and forward thinking sides of engineering.
- Engage participants in hands-on activities that build self-confidence and critical thinking skills around engineering principals.
- Foster mentoring relationships between participants and role models to encourage an expanded sense of community and a deeper understanding of what engineers do.
- Connect priorities about what participant's want in their future work and life to the work and life of an engineer by sharing personal stories and celebrating the accomplishment of women engineers.
We need your help with all aspects of event planning, but we especially need your expertise and experience to help guide and inform the participants.
