UCLA/HSSEAS has been selected by the Cisco Research Center to receive a donation of a Cisco TelePresence 1000 System and an accompanying WebEx account for a three-year period. The TelePresence system allows interaction with Cisco senior engineers and researchers at any global Cisco location without the need for travel. Currently eight additional schools have received donations so the system also allows for collaboration with our colleagues at these other Universities (a list of participating Universities is listed below).
In addition to saving the University travel costs to these participating Universities, the TelePresence system will provide first-hand experience and stimulate the exploration of new applications for collaboration tools like the TelePresence system and/or investigate new ways to improve underlying technologies used to create these tools.
Beginning in November of 2009, Cisco TelePresence Solutions have made improvements. You can now schedule both multipoint and point-to-point TelePresence meetings. The Cisco TelePresence Conferencing Service (CTCS) is a conferencing service that provides a business-to-business Meet-Me CTS meeting capability. The Meet-Me functionality enables intercompany connectivity by now allowing multiple participants to dial in to a Meet-Me phone number and enter a conference ID to connect to their CTS meeting.
As stated above, you may use the TelePresence system to meet
with any individual or individuals at the above mentioned universities,
Cisco, or any organization with CTS system Exchange.
SEASnet does not have a list of contacts for the owners
of the systems at each of these locations, instead you need to
complete a:
SEASnet will schedule the meeting and a confirmation will be emailed to you and your other end-points within a few business hours with the meeting information.
You can view the TelePresence Calendar to check for room availability.
SEASnet staff will meet you at the room a few minutes prior to the start of your meeting to provide you with instructions on the use of the system. The room location is: 7702E Boelter Hall. Since the system is new to everyone we would appreciate your patience while we streamline our process and learn how to use additional features of the system.
There are some additional steps you can take to make sure that your meeting runs smoothly.
