Facilities

The research in our group relies heavily on numerical computing for modeling and remote sensing data analysis. In addition to a set of networked desktop workstations, the primary computational resource we use is a Beowulf Cluster:

Hydro Cluster

The Hydro cluster is made up of a number of AMD Opteron multi-processor nodes running a linux operating system. The nodes are configured to run the typical high performance computing applications needed in our research projects.

The Hydro Cluster hardware configuration is as follows:

An interactive head node with:
Two Opteron 2.2 GHz processors (1U rack mount)
4GB RAM
Gigabit ethernet (GigE)/Infiniband (IB) networking
80 GB Hard drive

20 IB batch nodes, each with:
Two AMD Opteron processors
4GB RAM
GigE/IB networking
80 GB Hard drive

8 GigE batch nodes, each with:
Four AMD Opteron processors
8GB RAM
GigE/IB networking
80 GB Hard drive

Mellanox 24 Port IB switch
40 port GigE switch

RAID server nodes, with:
22 TB of storage
