Los Angeles Activities

The highly acclaimed Getty Center, just a brief ten minutes from UCLA, offers visitors not only it's spectacular architecture, gardens, works of art, and fine eating, but also a stunning view of the city from its perch in the hilltops above fashionable Brentwood. Nearby attractions include Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Venice Beach, Disneyland and its many subsidiaries, and Universal Studios.

The Armand Hammer Museum of Art & Cultural Center (310-443-7000). 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles (within walking distance of campus). Works by Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Daumier. Permanent collections shown on rotating basis. Major travelling exhibitions. Daily music, dance, poetry and gallery talks. Adults $4.50, children (17 and under) free, seniors $3. Multilingual staff. Opens 11 a.m. every day. The UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History (inside campus) is organized to collect, preserve, study, interpret, exhibit, and publish art and material culture primarily from Africa, Asia, Oceania, Native and Latin America, past and present. Historic open-air market offering acclaimed restaurants and cafes, fresh meats, poultry, seafood, produce, flowers and a diverse selection of gifts from around the world. Admission is free.
