Professor King-Ning Tu

Professor K.N. Tu; Retired on July 1st, 2016 from UCLA and accepted a 3-year appointment as TSMC Chair Professor in International College of Semiconductor Technology at National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. Received B.S., National Taiwan University; M.S., Brown University; Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Harvard University (1968). Spent 25 years at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center before joining UCLA in 1993. He was Distinguished Professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Department of Electrical Engineering at UCLA. He is a Fellow of American Physical Society, The Metallurgical Society, Materials Research Society, and Overseas Fellow of Churchill College. President of Materials Research Society in 1981. Received Application to Practice Award of TMS, 1988; Humboldt Research Award for senior US scientists, 1996; TMS-EMPM Division Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award, 2006; TMS EMPM Division John Bardeen Award, 2013. IEEE Components, Packaging, and Manufacture Technology award, 2017. He is a member of Academia Sinica, ROC.
